In the session ‘How do you create governance that can encourage and allow creativity and commerciality to thrive’, Eliza Meedchan, Public sector policy & governance expert spoke about creating good governance as both an individual business and part of a wider industry. She emphasised the importance to ‘agree the shared objective’.
Finally, Paul Singh, Assistant Manager of Good Hotel London, a purpose-led, social business, shared his story. A social programme in Newham, instigated and operated by the Good Hotel, has vastly impacted his life. Unemployed for 18 months, he joined the Good Hotel training programme, a bespoke hospitality training course for long-term unemployed people in the local community. He comments how he felt he ‘fitted in’ upon joining. Paul said, “The relationships you build working in hospitality, it’s Iike walking into your second home’.
At BECK, we’re proud of our drive to continually improve our ESG agenda. On our apprenticeship scheme each year, we have an intake of 6 to 8 joinery apprentices from the local community. This creates a career opportunity within a well-respected and thriving business sector, passing on the skills of master craftspeople to the next generation.
Sustainability continues to grow in importance on all projects. Works gather pace at Six Senses at The Whiteley London, where sustainability was a key focus throughout the tender process.
The team is also in the process of completing works at the Science Museum for the new Energy Revolution gallery. Material selection, the use of renewable energy, a robust carbon management programme and the reimagining of existing materials at the museum have been key focusses to meet the sustainability targets laid out for the project.
Ends.
