For this project, we worked with award winning client the edyn group, to create an urban oasis in the heart of Bermondsey. Bermonds Locke is designed for the modern traveller to work, play and sleep, with swing chairs, fixed concrete banquette seating and suspended planters.
The project involved the complex transformation of a six floor office building, into 143 unique and spacious studios. Décor was inspired by the Californian desert, with calming blues and earthy tones. Works also included the creation of public spaces for work and play, a lounge area, coffee shop, restaurants, bars and basement gym.
Many elements of the design were created from recycled construction site materials. Concrete testing cubes destined for landfill now serve as plinths for a terrazzo table in the ground floor workspace. Steel reinforcement bars and clay bricks were repurposed to create decorative ironwork and other unexpected design elements.
